This Mint Julep Recipe Explains Why The Kentucky Derby Such A Sh*tshow

Mint Julep Kentucky Derby running porta potty

The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby is today and that means one thing... day drinking. Well, I guess it also means horse racing and all those rich people that have spent millions of hours and millions of dollars trying to become the next champion. Right now, my early money is on Mystik Dan because you always want to go with an animal named after a person. Track Phantom sounds pretty cool too. Mystik Dan is a fast horse's name if I've ever heard one and as it stands right now, 20-1 odds is going to be a decent payout. You heard it here first. Anyways back to what a regular folks like to do on Derby Day... drink like a horse. Have you ever seen a horse drink? It's disgusting... like a gallons at a time. That's the plan this weekend. But Wes, you say... isn't the Kentucky Derby a classy event? Seersucker suits, fancy hats, mint julep, the whole nine yards? Yeah.... no. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXWL9jMAytc&pp=ygUaa2VudHVja3kgZGVyYnkgcG9ydGEgcG90dHk%3D And now, I think I finally know how such a classy party tuns into this kind of madness. It's the mint julep. Do you even know what's in a mint julep? Aside from some form of mint, I had no idea. I would've been embarrassed to even ask. So I did a little digging and found a video explaining how to make one and I have to say, I'm shocked and appalled that I've never had one before. The basic ingredients are bourbon (duh, it's Kentucky), mint, sugar, and ice. Seems easy enough right? Mix 'em together, pour into a standard cocktail glass and voilá, you're good to go, right? WRONG. You see the first step is to get a pint glass. Yeah, an entire 16-ounce pint glass because horse races are over in a second and you can't be stuck in the drink line when the ponies are running. Then you take a side-salad's worth of mint, you would think a few leaves would suffice, but again, you'd be wrong. You want that cup of mint leaves to look like it would feed a family of rabbits for days on end. Then, a sugar cube (duh, horses like sugar), and you want to mash that up in the pint glass with your mint salad. Fill with ice, and then it's time to add the bourbon. Now, this is very important and you'll want to pay very close attention to what she does and not what she says. She's going to tell you that you need 2 ounces of bourbon. Now, I've never been one for specific measurements, but she pours half of the f***king bottle into that pint glass. Like I said, I'm not one for measurements, but WAY THE F*** more than 2 ounces. We're talking enough bourbon to give the damn horse a buzz. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdNk1xmDpxo Suddenly, it all made sense. You see folks, this is why the Kentucky Derby is an absolute sh*t show. It's all because of this sneaky little cocktail called the mint julep. A 16-oz. mint salad with a healthy pour of bourbon dressing. Tasty, refreshing, and strong enough to knock you flat on your ass in less than an hour. And, I can't wait... https://twitter.com/WRBolen/status/594599357682356224

Drone Captures Incredible Footage Of Lone Wolf Trying To Take Down A Moose

Moose runs from wolf via drone

Size matters... but not to a wolf it doesn't. This fella was working on some awesome drone footage of Northern Ontario, Canada, when he spotted this moose standing belly deep in the water. But when he went in for a closer look, he got way more than he bargained for. "Captured this footage by happenstance while shooting some scenics in Northern Ontario. Was excited by the moose sighting, as I was leaving something unexpected took place." Roll the tape... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akGWOpcWfrQ A wolf came bursting out of the woods and dove into the water to attack the moose. I didn't know wolves could swim that well, but they definitely can. Not one to just sit around and get eaten, the moose starts to kick in an effort to get the wolf to back down. Not gonna happen, once a little distance is created the moose heads for deeper waters with wolfie hot on the trail. The two go head to head for quite a while, and it appears as though the wolf might've gotten hold of the moose more than once, but the deep waters made it incredibly difficult for the wolf to attack and swim at the same time. With the wolf latched on to a leg, the moose is able to break free and wade through the water, forcing the much shorter (and way more tired) wolf to swim after 'em. Which he did... for quite a while before giving up and turning towards shore. I mean, I could do without the dramatic music, but somebody get National Geographic on the phone because this footage is incredible. Alone and in deep waters, this wolf was probably a bit overmatched. But on dry land, with a few more members of the wolfpack, it might've been a different story. For this moose in Northern Idaho, it sure was... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Padsv7MLLoM

Kameron Marlowe Looks To Right His Wrongs On New Single “On My Way Out”

Kameron Marlowe country music

Kameron Marlowe is reflecting on the past. The North Carolina native is gearing up for his sophomore album release, Keepin' The Lights On, on May 31st, but until then, he is still giving fans a taste of what is in store by releasing a new single, "On My Way Out." Marlowe is known for laying it all on the line lyrically, and this song follows that pattern, highlighting the feelings of rectifying your wrongs before you leave the world. This heavy hitter is a perfect follow-up from his last single and title track, "Keepin' The Lights On." The message of this single strikes a chord as he takes listeners through some mistakes we all have made that we wish we could go back and fix. While it is sometimes better to leave things in the past, everyone can relate to a moment or two that still sits heavy on their chest. "When I first heard this song it resonated with me on a deeper level. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to realize how special our time is on this earth and to never take these moments for granted." https://www.instagram.com/p/C6ff4hXsxHE/ The track, written by HARDY, Ben Johnson, Hunter Phelps, Taylor Phillips, and Bobby Pinson, conveys a profound message in digestible lyrics. When combined with Marlowe's smooth, deep vocals, it creates a tune that is easy on the ears. "On my way out I’d drive back down her street Just to see if never leaving town’s one promise she could keep I’d knock on that door a better man than the stupid boy that left Let her see that I’m so sorry that I never said..." Each release from Marlowe is more impressive than the last, and I can only imagine what the hidden tracks on this album hold. As a former contestant of The Voice, Marlowe is letting country music know he has the voice to make his name known and is backing that up through each of his songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDtxmyv-1po Keepin' The Lights On Tracklist: 1. “911” (Wyatt McCubbin/John Pierce/Micah Wilshire) 2. “Nothin' Slowin' Us Down” (Kameron Marlowe/Mitchell Tenpenny/Rob Williford/Dallas Wilson) 3. “On My Way Out” (Michael Hardy/Ben Johnson/Hunter Phelps/Taylor Phillips/Bobby Pinson) 4. “Never Really Know” (Kameron Marlowe/James McNair) 5. “Tennessee Don't Mind” (Charles Kelley/Daniel Tashian) 6. “Leaning On You” (Kameron Marlowe/Erik Dylan/Wyatt McCubbin/Taylor Phillips) 7. “I Can Run” (Tucker Beathard/Oscar Charles Gnaedig/Ben Roberts) 8. “High Hopes” (Josh Osborne/Trevor Rosen/Brad Tursi) 9. “One That I Don't Call” (Wyatt McCubbin/James McNair/John Pierce) 10. “Lock Me Up” (Ben Johnson/Jordan Minton/Hunter Phelps/Taylor Phillips) 11.  “Will It Be There in the Morning” (Kameron Marlowe/Mitchell Tenpenny/Dallas Wilson) 12. “Quit You” (Kameron Marlowe/James McNair/John Pierce) 13. “Smaller” (Erik Dylan/Wyatt McCubbin) 14. “Strangers (with Ella Langley)” (Kameron Marlowe/Ella Langley/Will Bundy/Chase McGill) 15. “Broke Down in a Truck” (Taylor Baynum/Nathan Justis/Dave Michael/Colby Williford) 16. “Keepin' the Lights On” (Kameron Marlowe/Kendell Marvel/Phil O'Donnell)

Bella White Releases Beautiful Cover Of Ted Lucas’ “I’ll Find A Way (To Carry It All)”

Bella White country music

NEW BELLA WHITE. I REPEAT, NEW BELLA WHITE. The Canadian native is blessing our ears on this fine New Music Friday with a beautiful cover. Bella White is covering a 1975 track from Ted Lucas. A master of blues, country, jazz, Middle Far Eastern, and contemporary music, Lucas is a skilled Motown studio musician who played balalaika, sitar, acoustic 6 or 12 string guitar and more for artists like The Temptations, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and others. While some of his own music with The Spike Drivers and his other bands were heavily influenced by psychedelic drugs and were made for those to enjoy while on a trip, his one song, "I'll Find A Way (To Carry It All)," is a perfect sad love song. The lyrics depict a man wondering when his feelings for his partner soured, and he would do anything to regain the butterfly-like feeling they once shared. If you know anything about Bella White, songs with this melancholy tone are right up her alley. "I LOVE Ted Lucas! Jonathan Wilson showed me his song “I’ll Find A Way (To Carry It All)” when we were recording 'Among Other Things.' I wish I could hear it again for the first time. After that, we turned off the lights and recorded our own little version, and now I’m sharing it with you!" https://www.instagram.com/p/C6gstutri3M/ White kept the original recording's simple composition, which allows her airy Appalachian vocals to float through your speakers. Her twang and long, drawn-out notes drive home the hurt in the lyrics. "Many's the time When love seemed so fine And many's the hour It was so sweet How did it get so sour?" Bella White can truly do no wrong and her talent is amplified through simple lyrics and melodies like this one. While she is a songwriter mastermind, hearing her sing someone else's lyrics allows listeners to just focus on her unbridled talent instead of dissecting the complex feelings of her own lyrics. This is the definition of sad country songs that make us so incredibly happy. Turn this one all the way up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGUGUxWAB64

Morgan Wallen Announces Opening Date For New Nashville Bar

Morgan Wallen country music

Make those travel plans...or make plans to avoid downtown Nashville, whichever you prefer. Morgan Wallen announced earlier this year that he would be opening his own bar in downtown Nashville, Morgan Wallen's This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen. The 6-story lower Broadway venue, situated just between Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row and the Ryman Auditorium, will be a bar, restaurant and live music concept, which is being brought to life by Morgan along with TC Restaurant Group, which currently operates several artist-themed bars on Broadway, including Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar, Luke Bryan’s 32 Bridge, and Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa. Of course the name was inspired by his song “This Bar,” and Morgan said he hopes to bring some of his East Tennessee roots to Music City through the menu and music: “I sing about finding myself in ‘this bar’ and now it’s coming to life. This venue will hold true to everything I love and is inspired by my fans and the way they have embraced me and my music. We’re designing a menu around some of my family favorites, so it brings a piece of East Tennessee to Music City. I hope This Bar is a place you’ll want to find yourself in and make memories with your friends and family and celebrate the way country music has brought us all together.” Well now we know when it will be opening. Tonight during the second of Morgan's three shows at Nissan Stadium in Music City, the country superstar announced that This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen would be opening Memorial Day weekend.

The new bar will be approximately 30,000 square feet and feature three live music stages, six bars and an open-air rooftop. The menu will be curated by Wallen with Chef Tomasz Wosiak, Vice President of Culinary Development for TC Restaurant Group, and feature southern delicacies, in addition to some of Mama Wallen’s own recipes. Adam Hesler, President at TC Restaurant Group, says: “Morgan Wallen is one of the most sought after stars in the music industry, and we are thrilled that he has trusted us to deliver a concept that will bring him closer to his fans, hold fast to his roots and enshrine his name among an exclusive group of artists who can claim international stardom with a Lower Broadway destination fans all over the world seek out.” Of course the bar also comes on the heels of Morgan's highly-publicized arrest for allegedly throwing a chair off the rooftop of another downtown Nashville bar, Chief's, owned by his friend Eric Church. Gotta hope that Church isn't looking for a little revenge...and that the chairs are bolted down in Morgan's place.

Zach Bryan Is Giving Fans Live Recordings Of Shows They Attend On ‘Quittin’ Time Tour’

Zach Bryan

Relive the magic. Zach Bryan is one of the hottest tickets in country music right now, selling out arenas and stadiums all over the country on his Quittin' Time Tour. He's also one of the hardest working guys in the game, constantly cranking out new music and dropping new songs and albums. The "Something In The Orange" singer has already announced that his next album, The Great American Bar Scene, will be released sometime this year - and if history is any indication, it's probably not the only new music we get from Zach this year. But that's not all that Zach's got up his sleeve. It turns out that he's been handing out physical tickets at the door of every show on his current tour. And aside from being a cool physical souvenir, the tickets also have a code that fans will be able to scan to access a live recording of the show they attended. Zach announced the plans on Twitter this evening, telling fans that the recordings would be available soon: https://twitter.com/zachlanebryan/status/1786568058049364003 https://twitter.com/zachlanebryan/status/1786568703909212624 And fans confirmed that they were able to sign up for the recordings using their tickets: https://twitter.com/charlie0824/status/1786572178260885570 Clearly those who were lucky enough to get to see the shows the first time around are pumped about the opportunity to relive the magic. And I've gotta say, this is a really cool thing that Zach's doing. I love live albums, and getting to see a live recording from a show you were at would make it even better. It's things like this that artists should be looking into to set themselves apart and reward fans who are shelling out (ridiculous) money to go to concerts these days. Good for Zach for leading the way on this one...even if he admits that it may be a shit show to begin with. https://twitter.com/zachlanebryan/status/1786568948047130830

Man Trying To Rescue An Injured Mountain Lion Nearly Takes A Paw To The Face

Man almost swiped by puma

That was a close one.... far too close for comfort. Pumas ain’t nothing to mess with. They are trained killers far and wide. Pumas or cougars or mountain lions, whatever you want to call them, they are the same thing. In the United States, we generally refer to them as mountain lions, cougars is probably more common in Canada, and puma is what you'll hear in Mexico and South America. And then in Florida, they have a subspecies that they refer to as the Florida panther. However, they are all the same scientifically, with their being minor variances in sub-species. One thing is for sure, regardless of where you come across one of them, they are dangerous and don’t want to be near you unless they are trying to hurt you. Pumas are typically solitary cats that lurk around unnoticed most of the time unless they want to be seen, which is usually when they attack. These cats have incredible speed, power and accuracy, using their deadly bite, sharp claws and long jump to take out their prey. This isn’t necessarily the animal that you would want to be tasked with rescuing as it may come with some risk. But these folks were ready... well, sorta. This animal rescue crew was alerted to an injured puma on the side of the road in Guerrero, Mexico, and sprung into action to get it some help and make it not a danger to the public. Two men are seen with ropes around a living puma as they try to wrestle it into the back of a truck. I'm not gonna lie, it doesn't appear to be the most sophisticated method of capture. It is all going surprising well until they have to tie it down in the back of the truck. It appears as though a tranquilizer isn't available and they're gonna bring this ol' boy in fully awake and filled with rage. One of the men gets bit closer to start to tie the rope off and the puma takes its chance and leaps straight for the man, who narrowly avoids a paw to the face and falls to the ground. Woooo... I bet that got the ol’ heart beating fast. Would've been one hell of a scar... https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j-otwCH_Q/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The Reactions Are Hilarious Amid News Of Aaron Rodgers Inviting Jets Rookie Malachi Corley To Stay At His Guesthouse

Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets are doing all they can to squeeze at least one more push for a Super Bowl from the twilight of Aaron Rodgers' career. They're hoping that Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley, who they traded up to pick 65th overall in the third round of the NFL Draft, can jump in and shine as a rookie right away. As Corley revealed in holding court with Jets reporters on Friday, Rodgers is eager to work with the young pass-catcher. The MVP quarterback invited Corley to stay at his guesthouse, presumably so they could get to know each other better and get a little extra throwing work in. Sounds like Corley is game for the opportunity. https://twitter.com/Connor_J_Hughes/status/1786475631061959040 However, a not-insignificant amount of outsiders are either nonplussed, concerned, or speculating about the wild alternative thought patterns Corley could find himself mixed up in while taking up temporary residence with Rodgers. Part of the reason the aging QB is so fascinating (and often aggravating) is because he says some of the most bizarre and/or silly sh*t you'll ever hear from a professional athlete or public figure. Since he's so damn good at throwing a football, though, most people accept it as par for the course and just part of his quirky personality — pernicious as some of Rodgers' nonsense might be at times. Rodgers is who he is, and what he says is what it is. One area where he's most definitely improved since arriving in New York is his treatment of younger players. Rather than carrying on his practice of giving the impressionable youngsters in Green Bay a cold (laser rocket arm) shoulder, the 40-year-old vet seemed to soften somewhat at his advanced football age. So I think Rodgers putting his arms around Corley shows that the offseason leading into the 2023 campaign wasn't an aberration, or all for show. It really does appear as if Rodgers is becoming the best teammate he's ever been. OK so I think I've stated enough qualifiers and appeased Gang Green fans enough. Even the most diehard Rodgers/Jets supporters can't help but get a kick out of these reactions inspired by ayahuasca and various other Rodgers-isms — or so I'd hope. https://twitter.com/JBaileyNFL/status/1786505496997908710 https://twitter.com/GrandCentralFan/status/1786479710895022313 https://twitter.com/_67see10_/status/1786486352361496808 https://twitter.com/TresWinn/status/1786495657634587031 https://twitter.com/quadzillatown/status/1786486468493344798 https://twitter.com/TitanSmashMTG/status/1786488685426278585 https://twitter.com/BreakfastCarrot/status/1786479809993810033 https://twitter.com/BrettKollmann/status/1786494960348397984 https://twitter.com/wendellfp/status/1786482498383262117 https://twitter.com/AndrewMackens/status/1786488811616092657 https://twitter.com/YashManjunath/status/1786483266591031644 OK we can talk ball here for a minute. Corley was 87th on my NFL Draft big board (hand up: perhaps lower than he deserved), and he's most often compared to Deebo Samuel. Why? Well, he's not the most refined route-runner, but he's so explosive and difficult to tackle in the open field that he becomes a versatile weapon who can keep the opposing defense guessing. I'm not saying Corley will for sure be the next Deebo. The comp simply provides a loose concept of what his competitive spirit, mentality on the gridiron, and brand of football are like. https://twitter.com/dpbrugler/status/1710310107874046137 https://twitter.com/ConnorJRogers/status/1785733913920344280 The jump up in competition from Western Kentucky to being a starting-caliber receiver in the NFL is massive. Getting on the same page with Rodgers as fast as possible is critical. The Jets didn't have a second-round pick because of the trade it took to pry Rodgers away from the Packers. Thus, after Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu was the pick at 11th overall, Corley was the young man the Jets invested their next premium draft asset in, with the expectation he'd contribute in a big way in 2024 and even more as the years go on. If the connection between Rodgers and Corley can get rolling, it'll open everything up so much for workhorse back Breece Hall and the rushing attack. Any sort of threat to complement WR1 Garrett Wilson would be a big boon to the Jets' offense. Wilson has been saddled with bad quarterback play for his first two NFL seasons, yet still managed to go over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last two years. It'll be great for the NFL is Rodgers can rebound from his torn Achilles. New York's ceiling as an offensive unit, though, is largely tied to how fast Corley can get up to speed. One thing we know for sure: Corley is cut out to adhere to head coach Robert Saleh's "all gas, no brake" philosophy. https://twitter.com/nyjets/status/1786478982117941425 PS, if you're sad about football season being so far out still, or aren't pleased with how I wrote about Rodgers here, let's come together and celebrate the clip below from Week 1 of last season. Whatever anyone wants to say about Rodgers, not a soul on this Earth can deny how awesome this scene was. Before we know it, something similar will be in store right before the Jets officially kick off again... https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1701387904373969244
